The kyusu is the central brewing vessel for Japanese loose-leaf tea, and Tokoname remains the most important kyusu-making region in Japan. The category is known for iron-rich clay that can soften astringency and round out umami, making the pot itself part of the brewing experience rather than a neutral container. We plan to carry this category because it pairs naturally with sencha and gyokuro and gives tea drinkers a tangible way to improve the cup. This page remains a placeholder until we confirm the exact maker and form.

The Maker's Story

Our standard for this category is simple: we want to know the workshop, the clay story, and how the strainer and pour are handled before we list a finished product. Until those sourcing details are confirmed, we would rather describe the Tokoname tradition honestly than invent a supplier story.
