About Chado
Our Story
Chado — 茶道 — means “the way of tea.” It is a philosophy of attention, respect, and simplicity that has guided Japanese tea culture for centuries. It is also our name, and our north star.
We started Chado because we believed something was missing in how the West experiences Japanese tea. Too often, exceptional teas are stripped of their stories — the farmer who nurtured them, the region that shaped their character, the centuries of craft behind every cup. We wanted to change that.
Our approach is simple: go directly to the source. We travel to Japan's most revered tea-growing regions — the misty hills of Uji in Kyoto, the volcanic plateaus of Shizuoka, the sheltered valleys of Yame in Fukuoka — and we build relationships with the farmers and artisans who dedicate their lives to this craft.
We don't blend. We don't obscure origins. Every tea we offer is single-origin, single-farmer, single-harvest. We believe you deserve to know exactly where your tea comes from and who made it possible.
What We Believe
Transparency
Every product comes with full provenance — the farm, the farmer, the harvest date, the cultivar. No vague 'Product of Japan' labels. We name our sources because we're proud of them.
Direct Relationships
We work directly with growers and artisans, cutting out layers of middlemen. This means better quality for you, fairer compensation for makers, and a genuine connection between cup and source.
Quiet Quality
We let the products speak for themselves. No hype, no gimmicks, no superfood claims. Just exceptional tea and beautiful ceramics, presented honestly and allowed to shine on their own merits.
Beyond Tea: Ceramics
Great tea deserves great vessels. That's why we also curate a collection of handcrafted Japanese ceramics — teapots, tea bowls, cups, and caddies — made by artisans in Japan's legendary pottery regions.
From Tokoname's iron-rich clay kyusu to Mino's wood-ash glazed chawan, each piece we select is functional art. These are tools designed to enhance the tea experience, crafted with the same dedication to quality and tradition as the teas themselves.
We believe the vessel matters. The weight in your hands, the texture against your lips, the way clay seasons over time — these elements transform tea from a beverage into an experience.
Where We're Going
We're in the early days. Right now, we're deep in the process of finalizing our sourcing partnerships — visiting farms, tasting hundreds of samples, and selecting only the most exceptional teas and ceramics to bring to you.
We'd rather take our time and get it right than rush something to market. When we launch our first collection, every single product will meet the standard we've set — and you'll know exactly where it came from.
